The Kitty Hawk Public Works Department is located at 965 West Kitty Hawk Road.
The Public Works Department is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of Town streets, rights-of-way, buildings and grounds, public beach accesses and for the operation of the recycling center located at 4190 Bob Perry Road.
Town of Kitty Hawk Waste Collection & Disposal
The Town contracts with Dare County for solid waste collection and disposal. Questions about how to repair or replace a trash can should be directed to the Dare County Public Works Department by calling 252-475-5880.

Recycling Center in Kitty Hawk
The Kitty Hawk/Dare County Recycling Center located at 4190 Bob Perry Road is staffed daily to assist you in unloading and directing you to the correct disposal location.
Outer Banks Hauling provides voluntary curbside recycling service for residential customers. Contact Outer Banks Hauling at 252-491-5105 for more information.
Vegetative Debris Collection
Vegetative debris pickup will begin October 13, 2025. This service is only available for brush cut by homeowners, not for contractors or landscapers. No bagged leaves, grass clippings, or straw can be accepted.
Any pile exceeding 20 feet long and 4 feet high will be considered major lot clearing. Piles of brush should be placed within 10 feet of the roadside in front of your property only. Do not stack near utilities or fire hydrants.
Individual limbs can be up to 6 feet long with a maximum limb diameter of 4 inches. The width across the branches of a single limb cannot exceed 3 feet.

The Town of Kitty Hawk’s water service is also provided by Dare County.

William “Willie” Midgett, Director
Willie started with the Town in August 2006. He is retired from the U.S. Coast Guard. He is a 1984 graduate of Manteo High School, and a lifelong resident of Dare and Currituck Counties. Willie is married with three children.
Willie’s responsibility is the overall operation of the Public Works Department including the maintenance of Town buildings, streets, grounds, and the administration of Department personnel.
