Police Officer Candidates – Lateral Transfer

Responsibilities
– Conduct patrols and respond to emergency calls
– Enforce traffic laws and investigate accidents
– Conduct criminal investigations and gather evidence
– Make arrests and testify in court
– Provide assistance to the public and ensure community safety
– Handle conflict situations with professionalism and de-escalate tense situations
Requirements
- Be a certified police officer with an agency in North Carolina and have completed the one-year probationary period or have had a break in service of fewer than 12 months from a North Carolina law enforcement agency.
- Out-of-State Transfer – At a minimum, out-of-state candidates must have two years of full-time, sworn law enforcement experience and have completed a basic law enforcement training course accredited by the state from which they are transferring to be considered for transfer to a North Carolina law enforcement agency. Out-of-state transferees cannot have a break in service exceeding three years.
- At a minimum, they must also complete the Legal Unit and any other identified training of the Commission-certified Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Course and successfully pass the BLET state examination within their 12-month probationary period.
- All out-of-state transfers are considered Probationary Appointees who must meet the requirements stated above prior to being issued Probationary Certification as a law enforcement officer.
Documentation required to consider training requirements:
- A letter from your previous law enforcement agency detailing your dates of FULL-TIME, sworn service; and that you are in good standing.
- A copy of your Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) course certificate of successful completion.
- A topical breakdown/syllabus of the courses that you completed in BLET.
The selection process:
- Candidates will be required to be fingerprinted and successfully complete have a medical and psychological screening.
- The hiring process includes a panel interview and a one-on-one interview with the Police Chief.
Pay: $60,416.02 – $71,040.82 per year based on prior experience.

Public Works Technician
We are looking for a safety-minded Public Works Technician!
The Town of Kitty Hawk is currently seeking a Public Works Technician who is a team player and self-directed with a can-do attitude. The ideal candidate should possess skills in various maintenance fields such as electrical, carpentry, landscaping, and mechanical. We provide growth opportunities for our staff in the municipal field.
The salary range for this role is from $20.60 to $23.80 per hour and is flexible, depending on the experience level. This role is also eligible for overtime pay and on-call pay potential.
The position is based in the Town of Kitty Hawk, and the Public Works building is on Kitty Hawk Road. This role will require interaction with all town departments such as Planning, Fire & Rescue, Police, and Administration.

General Statement of Duties
An employee in this position performs general upkeep and maintenance of the Town’s infrastructure, grounds, and facilities. This position is under the supervision of the Public Works Director.
Essential Functions
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this position.
- Performs buildings and grounds maintenance and repair and operates related equipment
- Conducts preventative maintenance inspections of public buildings and facilities and corrects potential problems
- Maintains public rights-of-way, roads, parking areas, drainage systems, parks, multi-use paths, beach accesses, restrooms, and bathhouses
- Maintains Town vehicles
- Installs and repairs Town street and directional signs
- Performs carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical installation, maintenance, and repair work
- Performs small engine repair and maintenance
Physical Requirements
This is physical labor requiring the exertion of up to fifty (50) pounds of force occasionally, up to twenty-five (25) pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to operate equipment and move objects; work requires stooping, kneeling, reaching, walking, fingering, and repetitive motions; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken levels; visual acuity is required for the use of tools or operation of equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to outdoor environmental conditions including extreme heat and cold.
Minimum Qualifications
Some experience in building, grounds, and infrastructure maintenance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of OSHA safety procedures for using tools and equipment required to perform the job
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town officials, coworkers, and the general public
- Skill in the operation and use of hand tools and other specialized power tools
- Skill in the operation of lawn maintenance equipment
- Certified Pesticide Applicator certification is required within 12-months of hire
