Volunteer Opportunities for Town Boards and Committees

The Town of Kitty Hawk has several citizen advisory boards and committees, where residents can volunteer their time to help advise the Town Council on various issues. If you have a desire to serve your town, we welcome you to complete the application at the bottom of this page. Serving on boards and committees can be a very rewarding way to make a difference in your town.

Board of Adjustment

The Board of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial body within the Town government. The Board consists of five members and two alternates appointed by the Town Council. The Board hears cases where a property owner requests a variance from zoning standards or appeals a decision of the zoning administrator. This Board meets on an as needed basis usually at 4 p.m.  Over the years this Board has met 2 to 3 times a year . (Term of office is three years.)

Planning Board

Kitty Hawk Planning Board consists of five members and two alternate members appointed by the Town Council. The Board advises the council on planning and development issues and reviews subdivisions, commercial site plans and changes to the zoning ordinance and zoning map. Monthly meetings are at 6 p.m. on the 2nd Thursday following a council meeting. (Term of office is two years.)

Recreation Committee

Kitty Hawk Recreation Committee consists of five members and advises the Town Council on recreation related matters within the town. The committee meets on the last Tuesday of July and on an as needed basis the last Tuesday of January, April, and October at 6 p.m., Kitty Hawk Town Hall (Term of office is four years.)
