Save Those Shells

Rather than tossing oyster shells in the trash why not recycle them instead! The North Carolina Coastal Federation Recycling for Reefs Program offers recycling sites including one at Jockey’s Ridge State Park, 300 W Carolista Dr, Nags Head, NC 27959. The drop off site is on the northeast side of the parking lot, bearing left when you turn into the entrance.

After the recycled shells are collected and cured, the Coastal Federation works with partners to return them to the water where they provide new habitat for fish and shellfish. For a complete list of coast wide recycling sites, visit https://www.nccoast.org/project/oyster-shell-recycling-program/
